The UFC boss earlier this year orchestrated a monster $7.7billion TV deal for the promotion with Paramount, and is enjoying the fruits of his labor. He is an avid collector of art and sport memorabilia, and is a big baseball fan.

In order to prove just how big a fan of the sport he is, he was willing to pay a monstrous figure for a card of Shohei Ohtani, who won his first World Series last year. The deal went south only after that tournament, when the Japanese star’s value as a commodity skyrocketed.

Dana White wanted to spend $4million on Shohei Ohtani baseball card

In a new video for the Princes St Pizza YouTube channel, Dana White opened up about how big a fan he is of baseball. In actual fact, he appears to be a relatively casual viewer but did attempt to make a monstrous investment in a card of one of the sport’s current biggest stars.

The story of the past two seasons has been Shohei Ohtani, who is far and away the biggest deal in baseball at the moment. And White was attempting to do a deal for millions that would have dwarfed the current most expensive trading card of the player by $3million.

“I’ve been trying to buy the Ohtani refractor card,” White told host Nick Turturro. “I offered $4million for it, right? So it looked like we were going to get it. So then they [the LA Dodgers] won the World Series and the guy wants $10million.

“I was nuts at $4million… It’s one of one. So when you ask if I like baseball, I’m not a big baseball fan but I was just about to pay $4million for the Ohtani card.”

The current most expensive Ohtani card on the market is a Dynasty Black Logoman 1/1 card. It sold back in March at auction for $1,067,500.00, meaning White was about to explode the market with his purchase.
