Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul: Former heavyweight world champion in talks to fight YouTuber-turned boxer - BBC Sport

On Wednesday, it was reported that Jake Paul is ‘finalizing’ a fight with the former two-time heavyweight world champion.

It’s believed the YouTuber-turned-boxer will face Anthony Joshua in Miami at some point in December.

Fans have already expressed concern about the apparent mismatch, which Logan Paul‘s little brother first called for in March.

After being snubbed by Canelo Alvarez, Jake Paul set his sights on a boxing superstar with ‘no chin’.

“I know my boundaries,” the 28-year-old former Disney star said on his now-defunct podcast.

“He doesn’t have a chin, and he’s got no skill, and he’s stiff.

“I love you, Anthony. We’re friends, but I want to fight you.”

Instead of fighting Joshua, Paul booked a very different opponent in WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, who stands at 5ft 5in, and weighs 100lbs less than the British behemoth.

They were supposed to fight on November 14, but their exhibition was called off at the last minute.

Why isn’t Jake Paul fighting Gervonta Davis?

Jake Paul began searching for a new opponent after Gervonta Davis was hit with a lawsuit.

‘Tank’ is being accused of committing battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress by an ex-girlfriend.

Paul’s promotional company launched an investigation before scrapping the Davis fight days later.

“Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix have announced that Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis, originally scheduled for Friday, November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, will no longer be moving forward,” a statement read.

“Our team has worked closely with all parties to navigate this situation responsibly,” Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, was quoted as saying. “While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025.

“Details regarding a new date, location, Jake’s opponent, and additional bouts will be shared as soon as they are finalized. We thank Netflix, the Kaseya Center, and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their partnership.”
